Fork length and ride height

What is the length of the stock GS fork tubes??  I have fork legs off of a 89 gsxr 1100 and never compared the lengths before I got rid of my stockers... I think the 1100's are 1" longer than the 750's... anyway what is the proper way of setting the front ride height??

The way I would do it is to take the bike out for a ride and determine how much effort it takes to steer the front. Then I would raise the forks in the tripple a few mm at a time and find a point where it has good responsive steering without stablity problems; namely twitchy head shake.
