Well boys and girls, today's lesson is: what to do if a dump truck hits a telephone pole as you are coming by on your bike:  DUCK!!

Yes, I was driving along on my bike , coming up on a stop sign luckily, when a dump truck working on the side of the road backs into a telephone pole causing the line to swing down in front of me like a freakin jumprope.  Didn't have time to even downshift, just brake and duck :o

I saw the potentially decapitating line hit the bottom of my windshield , slide up it and over the top of my helmet.  The three vehicles behind me didn't make it through, they had to stop and wait for the fire dept .  to get there and fix it.

I made it to the stop sign, pulled into the gas station there and got my kickstand down before my shaking legs gave out.  I pulled my jacket, helmet and gloves off just in time to see three more sportbikes coming the opposite direction and heading right for what I just barely escaped with my head intact.  I gave them the repeated palm down signal and of course I was a bit frazzeled so the turned around and asked me what was going on.  I told them what they were heading for and they were VERY grateful for the warning.

Just thought I would let my story be a reminder of things you more experienced guys already know but might not be thinking about at the moment.  I am so glad I put a windshield on my GS500 or that line could have got hooked on my light or something and who knows how this would have ended up...

Good thing you were paying attention and had a windscreen. I guess there are times when not being fully naked is a good thing.
Common sense in not very common.

Damn... :o to close I should say.  I'm glad you're ok Patricia.  I guess it's always good to keep a good close of what's up ahead and have that windshield for anything that happens to hit or Fall from the sky.....

Good to hear you're good!
RIDE LIKE YOU MEAN IT!  BE SAFE AND HAVE FUN!

Wow! What an experience! Glad you're ok.
The motorcycle is no longer the hobby, the skill has become the hobby.

Power does not compare to skill.  What good is power without the skill to use it?
