I don't own a GS500, but I hope that my own bike is a very close cousin. It's a GR 650 Tempter and here in England I find sourcing spares almost immpossible. Here's the question:- Does anyone know if the GS motor would be a bolt in fit for my Tempter frame? They look very similar but I don't know about crankcase dimensions. If this mod where possible I could keep the style of the Tempter and cure almost all my spares problem .

dont know, interesting thought though,   Dont you guys have alot of the GS400 and 450's?  its the same lower end.  the only differences are outputshaft/front sproket assembly, shift drum, ignition pickups.  all these parts can be swaped from gs 500 engine.

Thanks Blueknyt, but if what you say about the 500s lineage is right then the swap can't be done. The GRs crankcase is said to be a half inch shorter than the old 450. The search goes on, I already checked out the Kawasaki 500. Way too big!
I guess if I had the funds I would trade for a new GS500, but I really like the GR style and over here it's a very rare  bike AND it runs really well, at least for now.

Nah! I guess I knew it wouldn't work. I'll just have to keep on riding 'till it breaks. As for spares from Uncle Sam, I just don't want to imagine the shipping costs. I think a new GS500 could be on the cards but it wont be this year.

may not bolt in, but will it fit in frame spars? an adapter plate can always be made to takeup space forward or back. (shivers with wicked thoughts)

would have to make sure centered in frame and chain line isnt too far off. everytthing else is a lesser challenge.

Thanks fellas, I'm gonna have to take a walk around my local Suzuki emporium with a measuring stick and hope I don't get talked into buying something grazy like a Hayabusa.
