Can we beet them in  drag race? Top end they will get us? They will be draging shaZam! on the road and making sparks in the turns before we even start to have fun.

haha, some guy on a harely tonight tried to race me and heather, we didn't bother trying, just went normal speed from the redlight, but he took off, and the combination of how big he was, how big his wife was, his heavy bike, and how bad he was at shifting and acceleration, that bike was rocking back and forth so hard between every single gear, it looked like two fat people riding a  giant rocking horse down the highway,

ooh well, no need to bother racing them, they got it back a mile down the road when it started pouring, and they started getting 60mph rain drops in their helmetless foreheads, ha

You should wax any stock big twin, run even with an 883 Sporty, but a well-ridden 1200 Sporty should leave you in the weeds.  OTOH, most Harleys aren't stock.  If you've ever looked at the Screamin' Eagle catalog you'll see more performance stuff than you can imagine.

I have raced full on custom Harley's... the 101 cube big bore motor, all aftremarket parts, fully hand built... $60,000 minimum... harleys with the GS in a straight line... lost ... by a good margin... and I got even when I met him on the same road with my eliminator... I just walked away from him... didn't ride as fast as I could, I made it obvious that I was just riding fast enough to beat him... No quick shifing... no revving to redline.... just a stay ahead just enough to make him try his hardest and still come up short.... was fun.
Cool.

OOOOH....don't even pick on my beloved HD's...I've owned several and I loved every one of them. Each one was torn apart and rebuilt by me. I had one that I hot-rodded...a '77 XLCH Sportster. S&S lower end, ported heads, PB+ cams, a few other goodies. And let me tell you that thing would run. No, it wouldn't run with a 10 second ZX-7 or whatever, but It did turn low 12's thru the quarter and topped out about 125 or so. It didn't really handle all that well but It was one of the most fun bikes I ever owned. And I'll have to say...each and every one of those bikes was very dependable and never let me down. I love my GS500 but I would still like to have another FLH or XL or a Buell. But at the prices they want I'll probably have to build another before I have another.
