Hi, I thought I'd introduce myself.  I am a new member to the forum although I've been reading it for a while now.  At 40 years old I got the itch to ride.  A long time ago I rode a dirt bike but this will be my first time street riding, and I realize it's a whole different beast.  After doing a lot of research I knew the GS500 was the perfect first bike for me so I started looking for one. I was prepared for a long wait but I found one (a '94) in just a few days.  Must be fate.  I already have a learner's permit and a friend who rides so I'm tempted to take the bike out on some quiet roads, but being mature I am forcing myself not to ride until I have taken the MSF course which isn't until August 20th.  Not sure I can hold out, but that's my plan.  On the bright side, I always complain about summer going by so fast.  This year will be different!

One other thing, I am missing the left mirror.  I have the stalk and hardware, does anyone know where I can get a matching replacement mirror for the GS500?  Thanks.

Glad you decided to get into riding. You are never too old to start riding (again). Aug 20 would be a long to hold out....but be patient. I know what it is like to have a bike you cannot (or should not) ride. My TLR sat for about 3 weeks after buying her before I could ride, I had a broken collar bone.
Common sense in not very common.

Hey There Matt V - Welcome.
I don't feel so old now    just 39 and my first bike - period. Had the itch since I was a teenager riding with my friends - on the back  :( .
Not now! 8)
I think the GS500 is a great bike. I've got about 1700kms under my butt and love it. There's plenty power for me (for now  ;) ).
Mine is a '03 bought used. I was lucky too. Did my reasearch, visited this site alot, checked www.beginnerbikes.com too and set my goal. I mentioned my 'desire' to a co-worker and he found one in the classifieds in the middle of January when its minus 25 degrees C here. Used one summer!

I had the bike before the MSF course but took it around my block literally (I live on a closed loop) a couple of times - say 30! But nevermind me - it is certainly worth the wait to do the course. I found a whole different level of confidence after the course. Aug?! a long time to wait though....

There'll be lots of riding time after the course and you'll enjoy it more. Great choice on the bike IMHO.
Ride Well!! (later... ;) )
