HELP ! fuse/electrical

i was wiring some LED nodes into my headlight and i got a short. now i have no power. i could find on 20amp fuse on the right side of the bike by the battery....there must be another. if so where. could it be anything other than a fuse? it was only a short blip then no power.

any help would be appreciated

GS 500 has only one fuse - the 20 amp you found. You might have burned up a wire/

Make sure you didn't check the SPARE fuse located in the rubber next to the REAL fuse.

it was in a piece of rubber in plain view, where is the fuse then? in that housing?

From the Clymer:

"All models are equipped with a single 20 amp main fuse that is located on the left-hand side next to the starter relay."

Picture shows the correct fuse. I think you pulled out the spare.

It's behind little red door marked FUSE if i remember correctly. The one in the rubber feels like it is in a socket but it's not.

Maybe this picture will lend a little more clarity:

The "active" fuse is under the red cover marked FUSE 20A. The dark yellow spare fuse is pushed into the rubber "retainer" on the right end of the same (starter relay) assembly.

that is exactly what i did, looks as though i have to take the plastic off...do you guys know what the wires are behind the headlight? there are one positive and a brown negative with female quick connects on them but going no where? i was going to wire the LEDs into them rather than splicing the headlight wire.

Kerry, you are the man.

I would have to visit the wiring diagram for that question. Pick your self up a 12v tester from the AutoZone. It's like a screw driver but pointed. It has a clip wire and the handle has a light bulb in it. Indespenible when checking wiring.

Should only be about 5 bucks or so.

I borrowed the picture from the set I took for my post on testing the starter relay in the bike won't start!!! thread.

I don't want to mess up the original with "circles and arrows", and I can't stand duplication! :mrgreen:
