Man this has gotta stop.

Yesterday on the way to work I had an old ( i mean really old) guy pull out of a cemetary right in front of me.  Luckily I saw him the whole time he never even looked to his left where i was coming from so i just laid on the horn and easily avoided him.

However, this morning I was about a mile from my house and almost got into it again.  I was coming over a small hill and on the opposite side of the road is a barbershop with parking in front.  As i was just coming down the hill this old ( really really old) guy pulls out of a parking space and starts to head up the hill and suddenly decides to do a U-turn about 25 feet in front of me.  I was traveling at the speed limit of 25mph and had to really get into the brakes hard.  I mean front end diving and locked the back wheel up a couple times and was actually fishtailing down the street, that's how close I was when this guy decided to go the other direction.   I managaed to stop about 2 feet from his driver's side door.  I laid on the horn and he just pulled over and gave me alook like "what the hell are you doing".  I have a deeply ingrained respect for the elderly and that was all that kept me from goig over and throttling this guy for doing such a boneheaded move.  That and the fact that I pretty much almost sh** myself.

Luckily I didn't highside into this guys car.  when the back locked the first time I let off but I had to stomp it again to scrub off enough speed.  I think letting off the back like that kept the backend from getting out of control from me.

So just a word of caution all.  Even when you're riding responsibly and within the posted limits you never know when someone is gonna pull a boneheaded move right in front of you. Luckily I stayed upright, but be safe out there folks.

that sucks, i know out here in the cities i get my fair share of people trying to kill me on a daily basis witht heir poor driving as well.  as for the brakes locking, i'm pretty sure you're not supposed to let off the rear brake if it locks, as when locked it will start sliding a bit, and then when you let off it will suddenly jerk back straight, possibily high-siding you in the process.  that's just what i remember anyway.  glad you're ok though.

ok take the worst drivers from all 50 states+ pureto rico (they are the worst) and cram them in a city with only crappy surface roads that are barely matained.  and you have what I deal with every day.

well i agree with you there, but lots of suburbanites travel along my main routes on their commutes, and to get into the cities.  i see enough of them everyday.  then again, we've got the "high rollers" around here that like to cart around in their escelades, and they're not too aware either.

That's funny... I thought it was illegal for people over 50 to drive :dunno: .  Goodness knows we haven't let my mom drive in about ten years, in fact we're looking into a good euthenizing facility.  Boy, won't mom be surprised on her birthday  :o .

nope.  in fact, letting off the back brake after it had locked, could very well have caused you to high side.  once it locks, keep it locked.

You could do what my uncle does. Reach into there car, throw it in park, and chuck there keys as far as you can, then speed off. Hes also on probation for beating the hell out of someone who cut him off and flipped him off. So maybe thats a bad idea.

 he needs a custom bike sticker of some sort just to advertise that.  and i need one telling everyone i know that guy.  hmmm...maybe even better would be a small LED plate that scrolls with what ever you program into it.  then all you'd have to do is hit a number on your number pad attached to your bars to start it scrolling for several seconds.  WOW!  can anyone make one of these for me and for my car!?!?
