What color is my bike?

It's a 2002, and yes I know it's "blue"... but what color blue is that? I want to buy some touch up paint for the tank so it doesn't rust (until I can get a new tank), and then also paint the new one -- if I can find a new one, and if it's the wrong color.

Any ideas? :dunno:

My painter says he can "match it" by eye... but I'd rather just find out what the official color is, and how to mix it properly, or where to buy it. Painter had a book with all the color codes on how to mix car paints, so I figured there must be something similar for bikes.

if you're just gonna paint it over it...how are you gonna do it?...

will you sand it down first and then paint it over?...or sand the whole tank?...i need to paint my tank too...so i'm just looking for more insights...

Hmmm, its not listed on the GsTwin main page and on the main Suzuki page it just says blue

Try searching for Duplicolor and/or Color-Rite.

I searched for both at the same time and came up with the hopefully helpful thread Want to Paint the GS .. easiest way to paint tank?.

if you're just gonna paint it over it...how are you gonna do it?...

For now I've decided to just paint over the existing paint, to keep the rust away. I don't know if it's worth it to repair it... I posted that question here, you can see what people said about it.

I'll keep looking for a new tank, and also ask around about getting it fixed. If it's going to cost hundreds of dollars I'll just wait until one shows up on ebay, or even bite the bullet and buy a factory part. For now I'll ride it ugly with some touch up paint, it's not like it's leaking or anything!

I'm not sand blasting it, because if I do end up getting it properly repaired and repainted, I don't want to have to go to all the work of blasting it again.

which may also require a white undercoat.

You can type in any model bike you have and they will provide you with the EXACT manufacturers colors. They also sell the clear urethane top coat you'll need.

I used their product to touch up some road rash on the fairing. Looks great.

I searched for 2002 Suzuki GS500E and it came up with only two colours, black and silver... if I search for 2004 Suzuki GS500F it does come up with the Candy Grand Blue... but is that the same color as my bike? I'm not sure if the color changed between those years. Or am I doing something wrong with the search??

Like ollie said, a search shows the color YZ2 Candy Grand Blue #4997 but for the 2001 not the 2002. They may be going by a manufacture date instead of a model year...or they just screwed up. It would not be the first time someone one of these listing were wrong. The sample does look like the color of your bike though.

CALL color-rite. I think they have an office in Canada that would be more approppriate to you. The colors used in US and in Canada are not the same for some reason. My 2001 "blue" was significantly different than the 2001 canadian version. They are very helpful on the phone.
