Another bar end question

After a minor wipeout I had a few months ago, a fellow GS'r sent me an extra handlebar to replace the one I bent.  It went on well and is nice and straight  :), but the threads for the bar end weight on the right side are all messed up, corroded or something.  These are the threads inside the end of the handlebar.  So I've been riding along with just the left one in.  Don't notice any ill effects but figure it's about time I got this thing back together.

Any ideas on how to get the end back on?

Find a mechanic who can do jobs in metric and have him re-tap the M6 thread in the handlebar.

Alternatively get such a tap yourself, but I understand this can be difficult in the US of A.
