For the stock GS500 rear shock:

What is the mounting points center-to-center length?

What is the spring rate?
Common sense in not very common.

I wont' be able to check it til tomorrow, but if noone else has gotten to it by then I'll measure my spare stocker and try to look up the spring rate in the book.

From my stock shock (2002 GS):

Mounting length from center-to-center (at #4 pre-load adjustment...not sure if that makes a difference in the length...) is about 11 3/8 inches. I say "about", which should be translated as "give or take 1/16 inch".

Accurate enough for your needs?

Can't help you with the spring rate however.

I was looking for an usable shock for my project bike. Stock length really is not important especially since my 91 has a FZR shock which is around 13.25". The upper mount has been relocated. I measured the stock GS and it is 11.25". Plus there really are not any good shocks in this length. I would like to make the 2 bikes interchangeable.

I am thinking about using a 03 GSXR1K which is 13.1" with a 480# spring. There is also the 03/04 ZX6RR/636 that has a 13.4" & 540# spring. The new gen SV's have been using the 636 shock, so I am concerned that this spring is too heavy.
