My lights come on when I lock the bike up ????

Anyone got any idea what might be going on here?

I just got a 1994 GS 500 E.
Seems to run fine, but I can't ride it till the insurance clears tomorrow.

I noticed this strange thing last night.
I had the bike running with the lights OFF.
After a while I killed the ignition and put the steering lock on.
A couple of minutes later I noticed the headlight and the tail light were on,
but on checking, all the switches were in the off position as was the ignition.

Any Ideas?

Yeah, there are 4 positions for your key on the switch. On, Off, Lock and Park. The last 2 are at 8 and 7 O'clock respectively. Park will leave your lights on, just in case you have to leave the bike on the side of the road or something. Solution, turn the key to the very next click up, and that's Lock.

I'll have a look when I get home.
This could well be it as the plate with the words on the ignition is a bit worn and hard to make out.
I really hope you are right.

Yes, that... "feature" has been the cause of many dead batteries of the years.

I keep forgetting that you UK folks have a light switch.  For the US-types, here's a pic from the Haynes manual:
