I'm planning aroad trip in mid-August from DC to Athens, GA.  I ws plannig on making it a 2-3 day trip, in order to hit some fun roads, rather than just cruising down the highway.

I know there's members living all along that stretch, so I thought maybe people might have suggestions for fun routes between here and there.

Thanks in advance!

You could find your way over to Front Royal, down Skyline, down the Blue Ridge Parkway to Western NC.  Then you could take a bunch of different routes from there depending if you want twisties all the way, or a bit of hwy/interstate.

Any of the Blue Ridge roads are nice. If you find yourself near, or prefer, the coast. Take 13 down through the MD and VA Eastern Shore over the 26(?) mile Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel - preferably at dawn or dusk, and stop at the lookout to soak up the bay views. If you're lucky you'll catch a backlit profile of a few of our fine Navy's vessels. 13 is a fairly slow road, and is patrolled, so watch for cops. The Bridge-Tunnel will dump you in Virginia Beach which is a great overnight stay if you're building that in. If the timing is right and we can catch up I'll buy you a beer. From there a quick hop on the interstate will put you on the road to the N.C. Outer Banks where you'll ride for miles popping up and down over dunes with water on both sides - the Atlantic on your left and the Sound on your right. Every few miles is a cool new beach town. Great local seafood if that's your thing and beautiful beaches all around. South of the Banks is getting far from my territory, so I'll let someone else take over from here.
