Hello All, I am really hopping that someone can shed some light on my motorcycle experience so far. I purchased a new 2002 GS500 in Canada two years ago and have been somewhat happy with the overall experience. My problem is that everytime it rains, the bike will not start. I have to run it for at least 20 minutes and sometimes even after that we are still having problems. We have replaced the spark plugs with wetproof ones but today after work,  I had to get a ride home from my friend b/c I was not able to drive the bike. I was hopping that someone could shed some light/direction as this is becoming extremly frustrating.

thanks,
Eric

I have a 2002 US model and rain is not a problem.  I had it soake all day and started without a problem.
Try isolating the problem.  Could be something besides the plugs.
Next time try to cover up the engine around the spark plug area with a garbage bag.  Cover only that area and see what happens.
If that does not do the trick try covering the instrument panel.
Good luck.

is it time to check the valves?

Maybe your "overfill drain tube" is blocked?  That might allow water to pool up and possibly flow over the filler lip into the gas tank.  Just a thought....

Question: Is the black rubber sealing ring in place on your filler cap?  And is it in good shape?

The dark metal tube shown below routes the excess fluid (gas, water, etc.) from the overfill area under the filler cap to the drain hose attached under the fuel tank.
