you can see the oil at the bottom of the case.....if you were to add and half to one quart more......would it be bad for the engine in any way....it seems to me that if you have more oil to circulate you can cool the engine more efficiently.

I believe that adding more will increase the oil pressure and you stand a very good chance of the engine springing a leak somewhere.

Depending on how much oil you already have in the engine.  If the oil level is already at the full level, then the extra oil will drown the engine literally. The best way is use the dipstick to make sure the oil level is between L and F mark.
It is not good enough to say that we are trying our best. We must succeed in doing what is necessary.

When I bought my bike a few weeks ago, I didn't notice that the oil level was high.  After about 20 minutes on the hwy it overheated.  Had to suck out a quart of oil, on the shoulder of I-75.  NO FUN.
Keep it between L & F

Observe the right precautions, and it might not blow anyhitng. This is the precaution... start it on choke, and make sure it doesn't rev up to over 5K rpm. Then it has to get fully up to temp... meaning very hot to touch the fins. Almost as hot as it will be after a 20 minute ride, with the last 5 mins in slow stop and go traffic. then ride of and you wont blow anything. Cos the bike makes dismal oil pressure once its hot, so even at redline you wont make so much. But when cold at 5k it will make a good 60+psi, so be very careful with those revs when cold. Oh BTW run 10W40, not 20W50.
Cool.
