It might have been the original expression... cos I have heard it as well... but someone modified it, and told me ... a 1 legged man in an ass kicking contest will be mostly getting kicked... not busy trying to out kick the denizens with 2 legs... but 1 hand... you can scratch...and scratch... and scratch... and be further and further behind... But its a fun expression in any case. The same guy also used to describe a 2-3 mile distance as a "3 beer drive". Those southerners...
