I hear that the GS can be "modded" quite inexpensively.  How much can the HP be raised doing what mods and for how much?

Just curious.  Since I may have a carb problem (dying when stopping) and may need to open that up anyway I was wondering what I could do (since I'll be in there anyway) to get some more power.  I hear my 2002 model puts out 47hp at the shaft.  What would I be looking at for each mod?  How about reliability?

Thanks for the info (I'm sure it's been asked before, I'd like the "latest" info).

Well, you are probably looking at about 39hp at the rear wheel, the only real world usable measure.  After a full exhaust, K&N filters, re-jet and dyno tuning my bike put out 45hp at the wheel.  Admittedly, dynos are kinda flaky, but they do give fairly good numbers to work with.  My V&H advancer sets off my seat-of-the-pants dyno, but I don't know how much it really adds.  At this point, if I really wanted to go farther, bigger pistons, inreased compression, bigger carbs, serious head work, cams, and other tricks are all thats left.  Still, you probably won't see more than 70hp, which is a ton, but the real question is why?  If its for the accomplishment, then great, if its for the speed, buy a salvage liter bike and go nuts.
