hey guys,

I got the 500f, and was just wondering what you guys do to make the little GS get up. Let me know what you guys find the easiest way to do it.

I have a 15T front sprocket. Sit as far back on the seat as you can, while going 15MPH, grab the clutch, blip the throttle, and release the clutch. I've found that my balance point is right after I can't see the road. After you get it up its all about the throttle control.

SPARKPLUG1977

at 5-10 mph stand up, push down hard on the front, on the way back up slam the throttle open.  I don't really like clutch wheelies, i can't seem to keep them straight.

I had that problem at first, your gripping too tight. Be gentle grasshopper :p

On my 500F, go about 5 to 10 MPH, clutch it, rev to about 5500k rpm, and ease of the clutch, that seems to get the front up pretty good. Then it's throttle control.

I can only get my front wheel about a foot and a half or so off the ground revving really high and almost just letting go of the clutch really fast.  Does it matter if you have a full tank or anything... any other wierd littel tips you guys have?  :dunno:

I actually found a site about wheelies and stoppies for GS500s a while ago. I'll try to find it again and link to it. In the mean time, here is a video from the site of wheelies and stoppies on a GS.

Note: The link to the video will only be temporary so if it doesn't work, it probably means I've found the site and linked to it, so just scroll down...

what you can actually do is find out where exactly your clutch 'bites' / 'grabs' the gears by first slowing and seeing where the GS actually starts to pull you at idle (no throtle and be on level ground).

once you know where that spot is, hold the clutch an inch [try two the first time, ONLY move closer to that spot if you are having trouble wheeling] before that spot, going about 10-15mph in first gear, revved the engine till you are at 8.5-9.5 RPMs. let go of the clutch and front end will come up.

[if you find yourself involuntarily lurching forward the first time around, you are getting closer to your wheelie so you need to revv engine a little higher maybe to 9-10RPMs, front will come up nicely.]

make sure you cover the rear brake [and pull in your clutch] and tap tap tap a couple of times if you even think you are about to flip over. don't know if you have GS500F so if you do take of the fairings now and WEAR YOUR GEAR!!

What I said before gets mine up fine, maybe rev yours a little higher. At 5500 RPM, it will bring mine up to about 10:00.

Give it more gas and get the rpms up there. Some people say 8 or 9k rpm, but mine doesn't take that much. Be careful!

I have a feeling clutch wheelies are pretty hard on the chain.

I only tried to do a wheelie a couple of times (dunno, maybe 7 times, and I wasn't to brave about it) since I got a new chain and just today I've noticed it'll need tightening! And I take good care of it otherwise.

D.

I'm actually having a lot of trouble finding that website; I searched for over an hour  :?  Anyway, if I can find it eventually, I'll definantly make a point to posting it.  As for the video I've linked to, I'll keep it up until I need the webspace.
