Trade-In depreciation

Just for giggles I took my '04 down to the local bike shop to see what it would be worth on a trade in.  It's got just under 1,400 miles, jetted, garaged, etc.  I just bought it on July 4th weekend for $5300 with TT&L and a year of insurance included.  Yesterday 18 August it was worth $3100.  Wow!!! $2K gone just like that!  They said it was only worth that much because I own it free and clear, less if it was fincanced.

Looks like I'll be keeping her until the middle of next years riding season, then they should have in some used FZ6's.  I know this is an SVS crowd, but I like the more upright seating on the FZ.  The SV is upright, but I like the partial fairing on the SVS, but it lacks the riding position.



Save the whales..... Collect the whole set.

I was curious also, so I asked my dealer and he told me $3500.

my 95 is prolly only worth $1100 or less.....no point in trading in so im gonna ride this one till it wont run any more.

That is one reason why I won't buy a new bike. I can just wait a year or two and get it alot cheaper.  How do you like your 04?

Most of the initial loss of value happens when you drive it off of the lot for the first time.  A friend of mine calls it (for autos) "paying for the new car smell."

That being said, you can pretty much count on a vehicle losing value over time, and it's only in the rare event that you snag something collector-worthy that it doesn't.  Drive the wheels off of it.
