When I got my bike (june 04) I put new fuel line. (I think 3/8) standard automotive stuff. It is very heavy duty and fit fine, but now it has delaminated. the outer casing is coming apart from the inner and leaking after only 1000 mi. I am a little confused because other than the wall thickness (probably too thick) it seems to be correct.

I am considering using Tygon (brand for a silicone based line) which is meant for a lot of applications. It is thinner wall, but only 1 layer. Any thoughts?

Also what is the proper type that is meant for the GS?

Tygon sounds fine.  You might also want to read the A question to the GURUS thread regarding fuel hose matters.
