In my owner manual it says  12v 21/5 x 2.

In Cricket the testicular guard, or Box, was introduced in 1874. The helmet was introduced in 1974. Is there a message??

My 92GS has a p21/5W which I believe is equivalent to a #1016.  The #1157 is a bit hotter burning bulb.

EDIT:  Well I just looked at the taillight/brakelight housing and molded into the bottom edge is the designation:  "USA #1157 12V 32/3 CP".
CP being candle power.

I have some LEDs in the bike I just bought... caused it to fail state inspection. The lights are red and don't properly light the license plate. I'm gonna have to buy some bulbs (after I return the wrong ones I bought today) and put them in. I wonder how hard it'd be to add some white LEDS to shine on the plate. I'd have to figure out how to wire and mount them... maybe just glue em on :)
