make sure the bike is on level ground
stand on the left side of the bike.....put the centerstand down with your right foot so it touches the ground with both legs.....grab under the rear plastic with your right hand and put the left hand on the handlebar......at the same time push down on the centerstand with your right foot and lift the back using your right hand (under the rear plastic).....you want have to pull the bike with your right hand up, the force of your foot on the center stand will bring the bike up

I just put it up while I'm still on it... really easy with a little front brake usage.

Hi, this question comes up very regularly, I seem to recall asking it myself after I dropped the bike so if you are asking before you dropped it, congratulations! If you use the "Search" facility for "centrestand" you should find load of previous threads, a couple have some excellent ideas for making it easier.

Basically it's a confidence thing, you don'y pull/lift the bike onto the stand but use your own weight to push the stand down, Achimedes does the rest.
I always offer the same two bits of advice, If you are doing it for the first time don't do it with a full tank, the balance of the bike changes and the extra weight works against you. Secondly try and get a buddy to stand on the other (R/H) side of the bike as insurance.

Once you have demonstrated to yourself that it is perfectly do-able it gets easier.

hold left hand on left handlebar
hold right hand on rear plastic
put centerstand down with LEFT foot and feel for it to dig in a little
put RIGHT foot near rear tire - you're parralel to the bike.
put all your weight on left foot and ease bike back using arms, try and lift a little with your right hand.

Try this near a wall to the right of the bike to get your motion and confidence.
It's easy.

Since we're sharing our "put-up" methods...

Standing to left of bike, put right foot on stand, left hand on bar (just for steadying), right hand on the bottom of the joint of the passenger's footpeg.  Lean weight on stand, pull back on the handlebars, then with all of my might, pull back and up on the peg join.

I'll have to try the sitting-on-it method.  I actually like to put it down standing to the side, feather the front brake, ease it down to the ground.

just like everyone said eXcept I find it easy to use the passenger V shaped footrest to hold on to with my left hand and follow everybody else's advice. try the V!! you'll be surprised how easy it is afterwards.

Pretty much the same as the others, except I use the passenger grab/seat rail on the rear of the seat.   Gives a good place to grab/lift.
