Fuel System Cleaner

I have added a fuel system cleaner to the gas in my GS500 at least twice over the last couple of months. The bike seems to run quieter and feels a bit peppier at freeway speeds (at least while I am using the tank of gas to which the cleaner was added). However, since I believe that there is no such thing as a free lunch, I have begun to worry that using the cleaner too often may mess up the lining of the gas tank. Is this possible?
