So i went int to replace my too loose valve shim tonite and had to loosen the bearing caps on the cam shaft to get the shim out.  Well I got a little over zealous when i tighetning them back down and snapped one of the bolts off below the surface.  Now I gotta go to Sears and pick up an ezout to get it outta there.  I'm also hoping I can find a 10mm bolt to replace the one I snapped.  I'll be really bummed if I have to order that one stupid bolt.

like I said. I'm a dumbass.

take one of the other bolts out and match one up at the hardware store.

that's what i'm gonna do today.  I have the other one out already.  I think the ezout should work ok, they're not stuck in there or anything, I just  got  a little over zealous.  This time I'm going to tighten then with my nut driver and then go about a quarter turn with my rachet..

try a torque wrench,

i have one, but never use it, and i rip nuts and bolts the shreads, especially when it comes to aluminum stuff

the torque specs on these bolts are way below what my torque wrench can do.

This next pay i'm gonna pick up a smaller one.

these things are like 5 Nm or less on the torque.

Mine starts at 10ft-lbs.

I've finally started to outgrow my philosopy of "torque it down until it strips and back it off a quarter turn" after similar events. :)

Probably need to look for torque wrench that reads in inch pounds instead of foot pounds. Hard to find and $ (near $60 if I remember correctly). Sears has them in the tool catalog, but I've never seen one in a store. A friend got me one for my B-day and said he had to order it from Sears. I've heard that larger NAPA stores usually have them in stock and the price is about the same.

bought some ezouts and got the bolt out.  Couldn't find the same style flanged bolt at the hardware store , so i opted for a hex head and washer.  tightened everything down with my nut driver and gave it just a little (less than a 1/4 turn) turn with the rachet.

Gotta do the exhaust shim now.

I"m the ezout king now.  I should have taken pics and done a write up.  It was my first time doing it and  I was kinda nervous cuz the bolt was snapped down in the head.  I got the ezouts and a really small carbide drill bit and drilled down the center of the bolt until i could tap the ezout into place so it would grab.  Twisted it right out.  Next time I snap a bolt, and i'm sure I will, I'll take pics of how I did it.

Wow, you sure are learning a lot from doing that valve clearance check!  :thumb:

Did you look at torque wrenches when you went to get the EZ-Out?  I put up a large-ish photo a while back of the two Sears wrenches that I happen to own.  (See my 2nd post in the Nice multimeter on sale at Sears.... thread, or the direct link HERE.)

I never did post a close-up comparo of their torque scales, so here you go:

1/2"-drive, Sears part #944642:

3/8"-drive, Sears part #944690:

Looking forward to pics from the "ezout king"! :)
