That which does not kill us, only makes us stronger. Glad you as ok and planning on riding again. I know what it like as I have been in several major wrecks, one in particular that I should not have survived. Unconscious for over 10 minutes.

I never ride over manhole covers, especially after one started to slide open while I was crossing it.
Common sense in not very common.

Always makes me nervous hearing what happened to bikers, glad you can still tell your story. Heal up and good luck.

Good luck with your recovery. Hope it goes well. I have a 95 gs500e that needs pistons, rings and valves. if you want to part out the engine, lemme know.  I need basically the whole top end of the engine, if they will swap up fine. You can email me, john.paine@cox.com

The only instrument that made it out ok was the tach and the little bucket is messed up. I've seen bent forks, and these don't look bent, so i'm nto sure how i ended up getting this kind of damage... it didn't skid on the ground at all (no road rash at all), i think the bike flipped over a few times and landed on the frame+curb. However, the tank is dented from the handlebars hitting them (which they shouldn't, but do now because the frame is bent). Just another 2 weeks and i'll be hardcore selling things off the bike. Oh, naturally the blinkers didn't make it... along with the trans shifter being bent and the left peg being ripped off. Weird, just weird. I'm not impressed with the crashability of this frame... i did MUCH worse to my CBR and the frame barely got bent. Anyways, i am making an informed decision about riding...

oh, kerry... my injury specifics... 1-5 lower lumbar transverse processes fractured... as painful as rib breaks they say. I will say they did hurt like a biatch and are still healing. Sometimes when i try running/walking too much i get a sharp shooting pain down my left leg. My left thumb was broke in the socket, kidney and spleen lacerations, big abrasion on my right forearm (weird, i had full gear on that covered that area and i don't think i hit anything there), and a class 1 AC seperation in my right shoulder. All this combined made it interesting to get up out of bed, walk, and sleep. I'll take the road rash, ANY DAY over this.

Wow.  My hat is off to you.

I wonder what would have happened if my body had actually hit that cow rather than flying over her?  I think it would have been a lot easier on me than a strictly unforgiving telephone pole.  <Shudder!>

It can be very hard to get back on the horse. I had an accident in 1980 that left me with a crushed spine and a partial severing of the spinal cord. After several operations and a couple years of rehabilative therapy I could walk again. The first thing I did was get back on a bike as soon as I could. Wouldn't you know it, about a week after back into riding I got run off the road by a cager. I wondered if maybe somebody was trying to tell me something, but I kept at it anyway. I guess I figure if it's your time it's your time, so I enjoy it while I can.
Dude I can empathize with you and hope and pray that you are well on the way to a full recovery. Don't let anybody goad you into doing anything beyond your physical capabilities and give your body plenty of time to heal. I love the GS, motorcycles in general, this forum, and you too.

Whew, i finally got my cast off yesterday and the pins holding my thumb together got pulled out. I'm getting back to myself, but i still am working on my thumb movement. Got a removable cast now and i'll be working out at it until i have enough movement/strength to pull the GS apart and rap her for all her parts (i'm going to cry, i know it!). I will get back on the horse, just a TRACK horse. I refuse to ride on the street where a smudge of dirt, puddle of water, sprinkling of gravel/sand, or a manhole cover can make you crash/die. Seems retarded to me... now-a-days anyway. I still am absessed with motorcycles, so the bug still has me. Thanks for the kind words, i'm gonna make it!
