Another POR15 Question..

So, I'm POR15-ing my tank right now to get rid of some rust issues before they get any worse, and I am kinda sorta in a time crunch. Right now I'm in the Marine Clean part, rotating it around and letting it soak for a couple hrs all over the tank. The next step is the metal prep/etching stuff. I know you need to have the tank COMPLETELY dry before you do the sealer, but what about the etcher? I'm going to wash out all the Marine Clean and dry it out best I can, but if there's a drop of two of water in there is it going to be a big deal??

I'm going to be out of pocket all weekend, so I'd like to get the sealer on there by Friday afternoon. I figure if I can finish the Marine Clean tonight and do the etching tomorrow morning, and then let it dry out in the sun all day tomorrow, it should be dry and ready for the sealant on Thursday night/Friday morning.... but if I need to let it COMPLETELY dry and sit out in the sun all day tomorrow before I can etch it, that kinda wrecks my weekend plans...

what do you think?

Hmm.. so upon a little internet research I've come to a crossroads... Reading around on some other forums and searching, others have actually diluted the solution with water. This was on a car forum, so the tank is WAY bigger, but would I get better coverage or anything by diluting it?

I know, I know, I'm being neurotic, but I just want to make sure I do this right the 1st time... Did you guys that have used it diluted it at all, or just dumped the bottle in a sloshed it around for 30 minutes?

Letting it sit in the sun will NOT get it dry. Doing it over a few days is also not a good idea- you're  letting the bare metal sit and rust- you want to do the prep and sealer right after each other. Use a hair dryer on low heat and keep blowing the warm air through the gas tank. Turn the gas tank over and over to spread the moisure out so it can evaporate easier. Just keep air going through it and turn it over and over and keep blowing the air through it..... When you think it's dry- keep doing it for another 10 minutes to be very sure.

THEN do your sealer....if you do the etch then let the thing sit you're letting etched-unsealed bare metal sit and get rusted again....  I do my gas tanks in one session...from cleaner to sealer..... It doesn't take more than a  few hours....

I also do the etch-Metal ready- part longer than they recommend too. Remember you only want to do it once.

OK to dry the tank... hair dryer might work... but the best way they say... is the exhaust of a well warmed up car. Route that into the fill mouth, its hot... and there is a lot of it, and its rich in carbon di oxide and low on oxygen.... making it more resistant to rusting.
Cool.
