First Track Day

I did my first track day last Sunday at Texas World Speedway, just south of College Station. I enrolled in the track school for first time track riders.

It was a total blast!! I was extremely happy to find that I could keep up with or even gain ground against some the super sport bikes people were riding. Just goes to show that it is the rider and not the machine for your average Joe. Now on straight aways, forget it, I had people blowing by me like I was on a moped.

The bike held up well although it did seem to go through some oil. I may have helped that b/c I looked down at one point to see I was at 12,000 rpms. Oops. Not sure how much mileage I lost out of the tires either, but I was amazed at how the rubber just balls up.

Over the course of the day I definitely improved. I skipped the last session as I was getting fatigued and wasn't able to focus 100%. B/c of that I ended up going off the track during my last lap. Luckily, I was able to bring the bike to a stop in the grass with no problems. And only one instructor was around to witness it...so it never really happened

Highly recommended as a way to improve your street riding skills.

I plan to go back in the winter or spring and try to improve my skills somemore.

How much does a day at the track cost?

Average $150-$200 in my experience. Depends on the organizer, track, region, etc.

dgyver

Typically in the SE they are around $150 except for Barber which is up near $200. At Jennings it is $105 in advance or $125 the day of the event. Add in tires, hotel, gas....

note to self...need to start going to EBRS/WERA practice days for $85
Common sense in not very common.
