:dunno:
I have a 2004 500f and following the first service I noticed a light knocking when the bike is leaning to the left ( not to the right )The dealer has not come across this before but thinks it may be a camshaft problem and need a bigger shim?
Anyone have any ideas

this sounds like the end float knocking..very common on gs's..i,m sure kerry or someone else will put ur mind at rest..mine does it tho...but if i lean bike to the right it stops :thumb: ..and mine only does it at tickover..once reving slightly it stops too

My wifes bike has started making the same noise just before its first service. It starts with the odd tap, but once you have ridden a few klm's it gets real noisy at idle, and yes like yours only when it leans to the left side. The dealership i got it from drained out the new oil that went in the day before ( 15w- 50 ) and put in some 20w-50 but it made no difference.
Mine is the third one to come back with the noise in the motor they said, so it sounds like a worldwide problem. They also tend to think that it is related to the camshaft end float. So i will put another post on the site after they fix it. As no way am i going to just ride away and live with it, on such a tried and proven motor..... It was the great reviews about the motor that made me buy it for her in the first place...Cheers

New GS-500F Owners - Engine noise[/list:u]If you just want to get an idea of what can be done about it, skip to the second page.  But I recommend starting at the beginning.

PS - The noise isn't exclusive to 2004 models.  I had a '96 with the same "feature".
