Dropped Bike... Throttle Now Sticking

I put her on the kickstand and went inside to get my bag.  She stayed put until I reached the front door and then I heard her sliding down my driveway.  She fell over... NO cosmetic damage.  Started right up.  The only thing damage was to the bar end and peg (the rubber looks a little rough now ).    I didn't see it before, but the exhaust has a few new minor scratches.  I don't think the handlebars are bent.  I'm wondering how I can fix this throttle problem and what it is going to cost me?  Lesson learned... put it on the goddamn centerstand when parking uphill, putting it in gear isn't enough.  Also, where is the brake lock on the GS500?

How did you break both sides off?  

The plastic throttle tube is probably catchng on the now rough and probably unround handlebar end.  Take the throttle apart, slip the grip off the end of the bar and clean it up so that it will turn freely again.

You probably might as well buy new bar end weights....

You parked with the bike pointing uphill?  Hmmm ... that's the right way to do it.  If so, then the sidestand should have scraped the ground without folding up, until the bike fell over onto the other side.

I'm surprised that it moved at all.  Are you SURE it was in gear?  :dunno:

LOL... the bar end on the other side was gone when I bought the bike... but the mounting point is fine though.  Maybe it wasn't in gear, oh well.  What is a Jiffy-stand?

I am sorry to hear about your mishap.  It looks as though you did OK in the damage department.

Are you sure you actually had the GS in 1st gear?  I would be very surprised if it would roll downhill if it was in gear.  Also, when parking on a hill using the kick stand position the rear of the bike downhill so that gravity locks the kick stand in the fully engaged position.  When properly used the kick stand offers very secure footing.

As for the throttle problem, after viewing the photos, it appears that there are some metal burrs on the handlebar.  The throttle grip rotates on a sleeve and it may be possible that this sleeve is catching on those burrs.
Try filing the burrs away and see if that helps.

Yup very smart... just dont tell the harley that fell on my left foot cos the stand failed... Serious the bike fell and I was unable to hold it up cos I was already suffering a broken shoulder from a accident on a GS 1 week prior... The damn thing pinned me under and neat about crushed mt left heel with the transmission/drive case...

If it was a Piglet (Sportster) that fell it could be the stand...Jiffy stand was not used on the Piglet. FL's got the Jiffy...if it was a Hawg she may not have liked something you said or did. Lot's of people adapt the Jiffy to the Piglet so they have that extra security. Love the GS, love the forum.

Here's a question that's somewhat on topic since it looks like new bar ends are in order... where can I get some?

My bike came without bar ends all together, can I get universal ones or what? I assume I can put bar ends on Srinath bars? (haven't actually gotten them yet, is it possible?)

Anyway, that may be a silly question, but since my bike never had them I'm kinda in the dark on how they mount up and stuff...

I just bought the new bar ends from the dealer.  They are 50 dollars a peice though!
