Hesitation at 100km/hr

Hi folks,
I searched through old posts to see if my problem is common but I have a few more symptoms that are kind of puzzling.

At around 100ks it will hesitate pretty severely then come right back.  So basically if I try to hold that constant speed a pretty bad jerking motion will occur and I will eventually slow down to 80 or so.  Throttle postion doesn't affect anything but WOT exacerbates the hesitation.

Here's the kicker.  It seems to happen more when I'm getting some heavy head winds hitting me.  When doing some runs down the highway it feels fine going with the wind and does the hesitate thing when heading in to it. :dunno:

I have fuel.  The fuel petcock position doesn't seem to make a difference.

thanks for any ideas.

Michael

Sounds like you are starving for fuel.  It may flow when you open the fuel chicken, and may even be OK for lower revs but is not adequate as the revs increase.  Riding into a head wind increases the need for fuel so will make the problem worse.  Try cleaning your tank, filter, taps, hoses, and so on.
The other problem could be with the ignition coils.  I had a KZ650 once that would idle fine but carried on a treat when run hard.  Eventually turned out to be a dodgy coil.  Replaced it, no further problem.

If it don't get 40+ MPG on the highway, it sucks gas.

It's good to hear others having the same problems as me.   :P

Seriously though... let me know how it goes.

This weekend I'll take a gander and report back.  Thanks for the tips Michael!
