My local stealer had Timax... yes those 13 plates of titanium per hand gloves for $50... Bought some... I also recently heard of a make called balzout... which were carbon fiber armor for $40... You want hard carbon knuckle armour and on the fingers, and wrap around abrasion protection and palm abrasion proctection... kangaroo leather makes you feel clammy under hot weather everyday use... cow hide will probably last a bit less but me more comfy under daily hot weather use... Balzout also has vents along with armor on the fingers... If you cant locate it or the $$ is too high... I'll give you a store you can call and he it shipped out.
Cool.

Quote from: RoadstergalAfter my Icon gloves did exactly bupkus to help me out in the accident, I replaced them with a set of Joe Rocket Phoenix gloves.

I would have liked a set of these, but I'm poor.  :(

your icons did more than you think
you could have had road rash on your hands which would really suck
you can't expect your gloves to protect you from everything

and those alpinestars gloves are sweet, really comfortable
the knuckle protection is actually in the right place, unlike most other gloves

i wold love to get some too, but funds lacking,
i am very happy with my timax gloves

So I'm getting the impression that Joe Rocket is a brand that makes good quality gloves for a decent price.  My boyfriend now has short gloves but I've seen alot of pictures of gloves that some up above the wrist. Is this just a personal preference or are those longer gloves more for racers? Thanks for all of your help, I swear I will make a decision soon and quit buggin' you guys  ;)

Wouldn't it be perfect if your boyfriend would reply to this thread and then you would know exactly what he wanted!   ALL GUYS ON HERE SHOULD PUT THEIR 2cents in JUST IN CASE IT'S YOU SHE'S TALKING ABOUT!!

Well, I'm not saying they did nothing because my hands were damaged - I think they did nothing because the gloves were entirely un-damaged.  Helmet, jacket, boots, all showed abrasion marks, but the gloves showed none.  Even on the side of my left hand, where I ended up with a good-sized laceration - I couldn't find a single scuff, scrape, not a stitch out of place.  Funky.

i'm not being bugged. Anybody else?

Yes, Joe Rocket makes some good kit, and the prices are decent. Shop around a bit and you can probably find some excellent prices on them.

The over-the-wrist(gauntlet?) style is used by racers, yes, because it has a couple of advantages(and 1 disadvantage) over the shorter gloves. The disadvantage is how warm they get in the summer. The advantages are that you have more protection(no bare skin, and you have support of the wrist) and it can keep the wind from going up your sleeve.

i guess it's personal preference, but my personal preference is for more protection. Guess i'm biased.
