In Spring 2005 what would you choose?

2005 Yamaha YZF-R1 (black) or 2005 Subaru WRX STi (black with gold)

My heart is stuck on the R1. Also please don't give me the ordinary "donor cycle" BS or "your gonna die" stuff I don't want to hear it. Hehe. Sorry.

my one friend has both and personally the R1 is way better looking and faster...so if you want speed your best bet is probably the R1.

I would think the cops would be, or should be, more afraid to chase the Yamaha. You might get less tickets with it. :dunno:

The R1 is definitely the faster and more exciting of the two, but... the WRX is an awesome car and if you don't already have a car they do come in handy every now and then.  You've already got a motorcycle, or do you have to sell it to buy the WRX?

Only get the WRX if you plan to USE it. They are the most fun cars out there, just gotto get on a dirt road and go crazy every little while.

I already have a car as you can see in my sig. A 1997 Jeep Cherokee 4.0 5 Speed. It would be nice to get a brand new reliable car where I can drive it year round in the very crappy weather we have here in these NE winters. My heart is really set on the R1 though. It's so pretty and I'm tired of riding the GS yah it's fun and all but it's beginning to feel like a bicycle. I need MO POWAA. Hehe. If I get the R1 it will be the last bike I get fora very long time until it gets dated and I need to upgrade to keep up with newer bikes which ofcourse won't be for a very long time. Also If I get the R1 now I can wait until 2007 to get the restyled WRX STi. SO i can hold on to the Cherokee for a few more years until then.

Damn this thing looks hott. I think that's what i'll do. In the Spring I'll pay cash for the R1. My dad is going to pay me 4k for my GS and I still live at home so I can still take it on spins for whenever I feel like or my dad lets me and I can also go cruising with my dad. Thats the main reason why I want another bike too so I can go riding around with my dad. He really wants me to get the STi though for practicallity reasons. IE not being able to ride a bike in the winter and we're short one car for the family right now. (4 drivers in the house who need cars, only 3 cars to drive)

Well whatever I may choose ( I know it will be the R1) I'll be sure to keep you posted with pics and updates.

wow...both are awesome choices...but as it was said...are you gonna USE what the machine are built for??...the R1 is beautiful and not many bikes can compare to it...and the STI is just exhilarating on its own...but being a biker...how can you even consider a CAGE?!?!??!...get the R1!!!

btw...you're a lucky guy...18 year old on a R1...that's a dream come true eh?

It's apples and oranges.  If you need reliable transportation, get a car not recreational equipment.  I think there's more choices here, like...YZR-R1 or your first year in college...YZR-R1 or a downpayment on your first house or property...YZR-R1 or a cash reserve to relocate to another city/state; to start a business; to spend a year abroad.   Or, does money just grow on trees over there in the Northeast and raked into piles in the fall? :P

Darn, you know about my secret money tree.          ;)

I'm taking a year or 2 off and buying toys right now. Then I'm going back to school. I like toys more than school so I choose toys.

As for being 18. Yeah I have a good paying job for where I am right now. I get good enough money to buy some nice toys. Right now I can choose any toy from 35K or lower. Then no more toys until after school. If I get the STi it will take me a year to pay it off but if I get the R1 I can pay cash for it. Money wise the R1 is better that way I can go to school without worrying about paying for my loan.

I know I can definately die on this bike myself being 120 lbs and the bike has 180HP at 10k RPM but I simply can't resist. Also it weighs 379LBS. Our GS' weigh 396. It's all self control and responsiblility though. you can kill yourself driving a Honda Civic.

thats a huge jump from a gs and yes you could kill yourself ina civic but its not the same.  People always say you have to want to turn the throttle.
LOL you will go fast on the r1 and things can happen.  My freind has one and he has accidently blipped the throttle and been straight up in the wrong situations.  I have accidently given my gs 1/3 turn of the throttle i think everyone has at somepoint but the r1 will act alot differently if you do that.  Anyway i am not trying to talk you out of it  just be careful on  it .

  I got a good laugh from reading that.....it is a contridiction to everything you have said so far.

All I see is a young kid with access to more money than he has brains.
Common sense in not very common.

Don't take time off from school, i have learned from personal experiance.

you will prob kill yourself on both, why not by a civic hatch and do an engine swap plus boost (sounds more fun to me). do you really need an R1? You'll never use all the power it has, why not stick to an R6 and maybe mod it a little like exhaust and etc.

CasiUSA

I personally would go with the STi- It's fun in all seasons.
I've driven in a WRX with a friend in the snow, and that was a BLAST- I could only imagine the STi to be more fun- with the locking Diff and all.

Plus, isn't it about to get bitterly cold up there? You wouldn't be touching that R1 for at least another 6 months, no? :dunno:
