I frequently make about a 40 miles trip to Simi Valley near my area and I sometimes get lonely - especially at night. I was wondering if any of you have an iPod or the like so that you can listen to music or the radio on your rides.

Experiences?

Macs ARE awesome, typing this on my 'rents new 20 inch iMac G5 1.8 ghz etc etc etc...Crazy big and hella fast compared to my personal 400 mhz old school iMac.  Currently saving up spare change for an iPod cuz they whoop-ass too!

almost everyone I ride with uses some sort of music, ipod or cd player. Personally my new favorite music is called Jardine (as in my new exhaust)... :thumb:

ive got a 5 gig rio player,  still holds over 200 cd's.  Chose it over the i pod because it is very compact.  Can even fit into the small key pocket that is in the pockets of most jeans.

o yeah its about 100 - 150 bucks cheaper than the ipod too.  Just doesnt have quite as many bells and whistles.

Is everyone just using ear bud headphones? I went on a long ride the other day and wanted to take my MP3 player, but about 20 minutes into it I thought my ears were going to fall off b/c they hurt from my ear buds. They're the buds that came w/ the Dell DJ, anyone have some small favorites or anything? Maybe my ears are just funny  :?

I would like to know this too. I find those RadioShack earphones to be quite uncomfortable, along with every other earphone I have used. Any recommendations?

weaselnoze

some built in/wireless head phones would be nice. mmm

Has anuone mounted a Sattelite Radio on their bike? What are the results? I am considering this, but it's a ways off on my Important things to do list.

I had the iPod earbuds in my helmet, and they hurt like hell. I upgraded to these earphones by Koss ($20/Best Buy). They are the ones with the spongy foam that go in your ears. These work great for me- practically drown out all other sound even when I lean on the throttle.

BTW- what's everyone's fav playlist?
I have a bunch of electro-rock for when I ride in the city, just cause it suits the mood for me- Crystal Method, Moby, Linkin Park, etc.
On the twisties upstate, I like to keep it slow with a lot of acoustic rock, nice and chillaxin' 8)

Awesome, I'll have to go pick up some of those. I think I know exactly what you're talking about...

Anyway, it was really nice to have music for that first bit on my last long ride, I'll look forward to having some next time. And you're right jjr_vw... I force myself to keep the playlist somewhat mellow or else I look down to find myself going WAY too fast... :nono:

I don't like Koss.

I have a set of Sony earbuds.  They're very sensitive, so I don't have to crank the volume on the player for good sound (the Koss that I had before were still too quiet with the player at max).  They fit comfortably under my helmet.
I used to be into apple (heck, I had a Lisa), and now am rebelling from them because I think they've gone kitchy and overpriced.  I have a Memorex MP3 player with an extra card, and that's plenty for a day's ride.

I don't wear headphones around town, just on longer freeway trips.

I tried putting earphones in with my helmet to see if it would work but i found they seemed really uncomfortable. How do you guys put up with them in your ears and with all the noise? Do you have to play it really loudly?

Buy the slim kind, take the off the head thingie, and mount them under the foam of your helmet at ear level.  When not in use, roll the extra wire and tuck it under the foam of your helmet too, in the back.  Works great and your ears aren't plugged just in case you DO need to hear something. ie. a car horn, or an engine noise that needs quick attention.

Maybe you could open the visor, put them on, and be off... and does the guy on the cover remind anyone else of the movie CB4?

A lot of new phones have a MP3 players - saves you carrying two devices.

I use an HP iPaq with Koss buds that are outside the ear. They have a very thin metal wire that goes around the ear to keep them in place. A few initial adjustments of that wire and they stay put. I was using a flash player and it worked great, but I did not want to carry that, a phone, and a PDA. I have a 1GB SD card for the iPaq, so there are plenty of tunes on tap. The only problem is that I rely on my playlists because I keep it in my jacket. The wires would be hanging out if I kept the PDA in my tank bag. Due to this, I cannot switch songs while riding, unless I am at a stoplight, but that was true with my flash player too.

I hum 'Flight Of The Valkyries' when I ride.
