I was riding the other day, not hard, just cruising around. It went on after about 40 miles, right as i was waiting in line to get back on base. The bike has sat for almost 20 hours now but the light still is on when i turn the key on. I own the manual, but i am away from home, and sad as it sounds I dont even know what the red light is for. I THINK it is oil pressure. any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

It's oil pressure.  The first thing to check - do you have oil?

Definitely check your oil level. But, even if the level is correct, when you turn the key to the "on" posistion, the oil pressure is still low. The engine has to be turning to pressurize the system and turn the light off.... Just like the light stays on for a split second when you start your car. Fill it to the correct level, crank it up, and hope nothing bad happened while it was low.

If your oil is fine then your sending unit may have gone south.
