Kickstand down, the bike won't start

I hope I'm not the only one, but I find this safety feature to be incredibly annoying. I would like to start it while it's on the kickstand and let it warm up while I put all my gear on. Unreasonable? I hope not.

My question: What are the modifications you've made or ways you've found to get around this safety feature?

Thanks

You can actually start your bike with the kickstand down.  I do it all the time.  The only time it will cut off or it won't start is if you put it in gear

I know that I can start it in neutral with the kickstand up, then put the kickstand down and it will stay on. I'm almost positive that I've tried starting it in neutral with the kickstand down (if I missed this I will be extremely disappointed with myself) and it didn't work.

I'll try it tomorrow, and thanks for your reply.

gs500rider is right, you can start the engine with the kickstand down if it's in neutral. However, you still need to pull the clutch lever!

Kickstand down + neutral + clutch in + starter button = vroom! ;)

Once she starts, let go of the clutch, adjust choke if necessary, and let her warm up.  You should already have everything on, or have just your helmet and gloves to put on while she's warming up.  You shouldn't let it sit there for long if it doesn't need it.

um, the bike should start fine with the stand down while you are in neutral. if not, you have an issue to fix because that's not typical.

I usually take all my gear with me to the bike, start her up, and THEN get dressed & attach bags. :)

Hey Jen, (I know you assumed this) don't forget cut switch in run position and ignition switch on.
