grrr...... the shop will charge me about $70 labor to do it.  Might as well let them (includes oil change)

Problem now is getting a stator and RR.  I found an RR; and the shop can get me a stator for $125

Quote from: se7enty7had a talk with a local shop.. the guy charged me $65 to diagnose it with me... when we unplugged the stator the fuse stopped blowing and the stator tested bad.  He said the RR *might* be bad but you can't tell for sure until I have a new stator

The place charges $65 an hour for all work; and he'll charge me 1.25 hours for a stator replacement....

how hard is it to replace the stator?

Thanks!

OK that didn't make any sense... they disconnect the stator and the fuse doesn't blow... Obviously the freaking electricity is turned off... WTF sorta test is that... Stator resistance and connectivity to ground is what you need. This is a bunch of crap. But yes RR might have died, or killed the stator, and no car battery wont kill the RR, I have done it on practically every bike I owned... If the car is running it might be bad, but still it will blow a fuse before anything. The final diagnosis may still be right, but test the damn thing. Post the reading between the 3 coils and the values form the 3 to ground. The coils should be 2.1 or 2.2 ohm and they should be open to ground ... meaning infinite ...

Sounds like you have/had an extra ground somewhere.

The Buddha

Yup he did... right in the middle of the damn stator ... grounding to the magnet... aka goats ...
