I emailed the company to see if there would be any interest in producing them.

How many of you would buy one?

I really want to get one, just so I can get some cool footage.

I want to get one too. It seems that Suzuki uses only two fuel tank cap styles - the 'new' on 03-04 bikes (SBC24 camera mount) and the 'old' (SBC22 camera mount).

So if you know someone, who owns one of the Suzuki bikes that are listed to use SBC22 mount - just visit them and compare the bolt pattern on the tank cap...

PS: It's possible that 03+ GS500 also has a different cap than older GS...

If you want more flexibility (fork mount etc) you could look into so called bullet cams, examples at http://207.207.29.130/STORE/products.asp?dept=12&pagenumber=2. These would allow you to experiment with lots of different shots.

Your camcorder then just sits in a pack and acts as the recorder. One drawback is that they lack image stabilization.

I have used a camcorder mounted on the tank, and a bullet cam mounted all over the place.  The bullet cam has a much more stable picture than a camcorder, even with the image stabilization turned on.

I'm not sure if it's because of your feedback, but their Suzuki page now lists the GS500.  (It's in a different font from the rest, so maybe it was added in a hurry?)

haha, that wasn't there when i looked it up this morning. seen it on 2 wheel tuesday last night. well looks like i might have to ask mom to lend me the credit card (since i don't have one)

Cool, just what I found out yesterday - the -03 GSXR750 owned by a friend of mine has the same bolt pattern as my GS500 (except the bolt that is nearest the rider)...

DV format output is 540 lines which is equavalent to 720x480 pixels. SVHS is about 380 lines.

I can't speak for image quality of the cam you're looking at but the output resolution should be fine for your application.

If you want, I will send you a DVD with footage from the bullet cam.  You pay for shipping ($4.00) and you will have a real idea.  I will also give you footage from the camcorder mounted to the tank.

The bike was a 1976 Kawasaki KH500 (3 cylinder two stroke) and that video was shot using the bullet cam.  The race track footage was shot using the camcorder on a tank mount.

One more question though - what camcorder / recorder do you use? I was looking at a lot of Canon, Sony and Panasonic units, but none had a composite video (or any other video) input)?  :dunno:

I am using a Sony DCR-IP5.  It is a MicroMV camcorder.  Smallest made.
(A little bigger than a pack of cigarettes) It records in MPEG 2, so it is really easy to dump on the hard drive of the computer and edit. If you go the the www.helmetcamera.com website, they give a list of the cameras that are compatible.  In retrospect, I would have gotten a cheaper, larger camcorder.
