For what it's worth...

So I just got a call from the insurance company, they say that my bike is worth $4,000 Canadian. That's about $3,266 American (according to xe.com).

I think this is pretty funny, considering that the Blue Book value is $2,720 USD, and NADAguide says between $2,215 USD and $2,910 USD. So not only are they saying that it's worth more than the book values, the insurance adjuster was also very apologetic about the value because he said it's "worth less than usual" because of the previous damage (remember my bashed in tank?). Heh. Hey I'm not going to argue with that!! I paid $1,500 Canadian for the thing, and it cost me $100 to get it up and running after I bought it,  and another $500 after my first crash.

What do you guys think? Is that a fair price??

... Only catch is, they still haven't decided on the fault of the accident, and the other party will be giving their statement on November 1st, so I won't find out anything until a few days after that at the earliest. So I might get $4,000 for the bike.. or I might get nothing... or I might get half, or who knows. I'm just going to sit tight and hope for the best for now. I really hope they find that stupid woman at fault... if they find ME at fault I won't get any compensation for my injuries or anything. Grrrr!!!

On a happy note, that brand new gas tank I bought from the guy in the UK arrived today, so now I can sell it. I'm going to hold off until I find out what's going on with the insurance company, because if they are finding me to be at fault for this, then I'll just get them to give me my bike back and fix it and sell it. If they pay me out I'll sell the tank and all the other gs parts I have laying around, I've got a fender and some dash pieces, gauge cases, a handle bar, and a bunch of other stuff cluttering up my living room.

My friend wants to sell me his 98 GSXR 750, I'm seriously considering it.. mmmm... gixxer!!! He's asking $6,000 Canadian ($4,900 US), but he said for me $4,500 ($3,678 US). Seems like a good deal.

Now if my stupid concussion would go away, my neck and back stop hurting, and the feeling comes back to my finger I'd be one happy girl.

Wish me luck with the insurance company!!! :thumb:

Thanks Laura :)

The insurance guy said he called in an "independent consultant" to do the estimate. Maybe the guy knew me?? Haha maybe he recognized my bike ;)

Hi-T

Glad to hear you're feeling a little better. I had a fair few stacks when I was a courier so I know how you feel. At least now you've got a cool story to tell at bars!

If you are found to be at fault, will you be pretty much screwed in terms of ever getting bike insurance again?

dgyver

I would definitely take their offer on the value of your bike. Did they include a replacement value of the damage to your riding gear?

Buying a used sportbike is always a gamble but since you know the owner it would be a better deal. The 750 is not as revy as the 600. I believe 98 was the first year the 750 was made with FI.

btw...those colors would great on you  ;)
Common sense in not very common.

That 750 looks pretty powerful. I'd be scared of the powa of the GSXR. Wouldn't the ergonomics aggravate your neck and back and make your fingers go numb?

Hope things go well for you and I hope you feel better...you're certainly lookin' good.

Meighan,
Cool avatar pic.
Good luck with the insurance. Sounds like (if they're found at fault) that you'd make out pretty good. Nice gixxer too but do you feel ready for that massive upper rpm rush the gixxers are known for?

[is that bike really pink and black?]

I have to take it out for a spin and see how I like it. The weather's been all nasty so I haven't yet, and I can't get another bike until all this insurance crap is dealt with. My lawyer doesn't want me riding soon anyway, because he says that takes away from my claim of "prolonged loss of enjoyment and quality of life". We'll see, I need something for the spring, I have a while to recover. I'll probably start physio soon, which will hopefully help.

I dunno if I'm ready for it. I was riding an R6 on the track before the SV, and I did really well with it, so I think I would be OKAY with the gixxer, however I dunno if I'd want that for the street... I really have to take her out for a spin and see how it goes before I decide, and I have to wait for this insurance stuff to settle down too. Ahhh... maybe I'll just get another scooter!

Heh no it's red, I think the lighting in that pic makes it look pink. I WILL PAINT IT PINK THOUGH !!!!!!! ;)
