Ok I'm posting this question for a friend who is getting clip-ons for his GS500F. He wants to know how you mount them and if there are any clearance problems with the wider tank. Thanks everybody.

if there is nothing on the inside of the forks then mount them under the upper triple....if there is (like the headlight bracket on the gs500E) then lower the front a little and clip them on on top of the upper triple tree

by lowering the front...does that mean compressing the forks?

No, just loosen up the triple tree clamps on the forks, slide the triple trees down, attach the clip-ons, then slide the triple trees back up and clamp 'em back down.  It should lower the front as much as the height of the clip-ons, maybe 1-1/2" max.

These will fit.  They are for 87-90 cbr 600.  37mm http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=2493567054&category=35587&sspagename=WD1V

keep an eye out on ebay for a while, Ive seen them go as low as $10 for the pair.

If you remove the handlebar holder you can mount the clip-ons above the tripple without having to excessively lower the front. You'll just need to find a creative way to hold the gauges where they are.

During the winter I am going to try and mount mine under the triple to see if there is enough clearence, which i doubt there is.

I have the vortex clip ons and the clamp is very tall. Those cbr ones dont seem as tall and you may be able to get away mounting them under the tripple.

Either way clip ons are just awesome.

The previous owner of my bike had clip-ons mounted and I think since he didn't like the way that they lowered the stance of the front end, he modified the metal piece that holds the gauges and sits on the top triple tree.  He cut the round parts off the sides gaining him an extra 1/2".

Well I am hard at work making that type... later next week.... Dammit the job scene sucks...
