Crashed....kinda

This happened 2 weeks ago on a saturday.  Went riding with a few people on the twisties for hours, was able to keep up with the 600's, mostly r6's, cbr's and gixxers.  Did that for about 3 hours with no incident.  There were about 25 of us, I was the only one riding a 500   and to their surprise I kept up with them.  Big ego boost for the GS.

Went to stop for gas and to get a breather.

Trying to get back on the road, doing a simple u-turn to get back on the main road....ended up not being so simple after all.

going into the u-turn, i was on first...almost out of the u-turn, still had a bit of speed, but decided to clutch it up to 2nd.  big mistake.

the clutch went up, but no speed, just a revving engine, seems like the problem I had 2 months ago came back as the clutch slipped.  At this point the bike was still going towards the curb on my right.  I couldn't lean left since if I leaned left, I would fall because the bike wasn't going fast enough.

At the point where literally inches from the curb, I yank the handlebar to the left so as to not to hit the curb.  another mistake,  the bike then falls to the right,  the tail whips to the right and hits the curb.  rear wheel hits the curb and bike goes out of balance and so do it.  i try to stick my right leg out to try to save it from falling but to no avail.  the bike was too heavy and too out of balance for one leg so i ended up jumping off it.

The bike hits the curb and the lower fairing gets banged up,  the brake lever is slightly bent, exhaust is scratched up and dinged and also the crank case is scratched all to hell.  Got the bike up and it took about 5 minutes to unflood it but she started thank god as we were about 4 hours away from home.

Me,  i jumped off it,  hip hits the concrete first, then back, then the back of my head slams on the concrete.  I have a big fat bruise on my right hip bone, a sprained wrist and a slight neck pain even up to now. Otherwise i'm ok.  I was more pissed than anything really.  Can't believe what just happened.  Hurt ego more than anything but i survived.

I suppose this is one of those times where there wasn't anything I could do, it was a split second decision.  It wasn't my fault or was it?  Was there something that could've prevented it, i'd like to think i made the right decision as if i didn't, I could've low sided or high sided by hitting the curb.

Thinking of putting a dent in the frame so the insurance can total it and i could get a used SV650s.  The bike is fully covered.  I'll post pics of the bike later.

Oh..i was in full gear, no road rash.  wasn't going fast enough for road rash.  :dunno:

it is incredibly hard for me to understand how the accident happened, from what direction you started and if you went to do a left or right u-turn...glad you had your first (and hopefully your last) crash at relatively no speed.

But, with more experience you could probably have navigated that u-turn, or at least known it wasnt possible to make (if thats the case).

For chrissake dont total the bike. All you're doing is raising the insurance rates for us all by not taking responsiblity for your own bike. Want to get an sv650? sell the gs and buy one. Doesnt sound like the sv is going to help you be a better rider though. Only experience will.

it was a left U turn.  the turn itself i've done several times.  but the problem was that there was nothing i could do as far as the bike going any faster.  it just kinda rolled.  i gave it throttle but the engine just revved up.  It was either lean to the left and fall so i don't hit the curb or hit the curb and possibly go over the bike.

it was a split decision to make either way there was no possible way i could've held up the bike.  it was a mechanical failure and i payed for it.  if it was something stupid i made i would be more than happy to take accountability for it.  i dunno....i crashed..it sucked.  :dunno:

Commit to the turn. No clutchie. :nono:

Glad you're allright. Keep the GS, you will be a better, wiser rider for in choosing to do so.

It wasn't your fault???  Whose fault was it??  Shifting while making a U-turn?  What were you thinking?  U-turns should not need 2nd gear.  I'm sure you've done it before, but that doesn't make it smart.  U turns need steady throttle.

at first i thought i did, but the neutral light wasn't on,  i was able to even re kick it up and still the engine just revved while giving gas.
