Factory Shop Manual updates needed!

I own a '02 GS500 and in '03 I bought the official factory shop manual from Suzuki for $60.00.  Imagine my disappointment when I ripped off the plastic and discovered that it  only covered models through '99.

At the time this was the only version available so i kept it (Part # 99500-34069-03E 9th edition 8/99).  Now I see that they have a new edition out (Part # 99500-34090-03E).

My manual is set up with 8 chapters covering the '89 model, and then chapters 9 through 17 each cover a successive model year from '90 through '99.

If any one has the new Suzuki shop manual I would really like to obtain copies of the new chapters covering the years 2000 through 2004.  I am assuming that the manual is similar to mine in that they have just added additional chapters at the end to cover the new model years.

I am certainly willing to reimburse anyone for copying and postage costs and a little extra for your trouble.

If anyone can help I would be very thankful. (respond with a PM if you wish)

If nobody else comes through I can eventually send you that.  I'm a little busy at the moment so I don't want to commit right now.  Shipping is all I will need.  (I own a copier I got on EBAY--btw they are very cheap to get there not counting shipping and initial maintenance--and over the two years I've had it I figured I've paid $0.04/page, but the marginal cost is something like $0.004/page.  For a one-time deal I'll give you the copies for free, you being in the gstwin brotherhood and all.)  IIRC what's missing in your manual is only a list of specifications that might have changed from the earlier models listed there, like tank capacity, etc.  I guess it is worth having.

Oops.  I'd better check that mine goes through 2004.  I'm at work now so not sure.  Hence if someone else can help for sure, you might want to go with them.  Sorry!  --Mike D.

Hello Mike,

Well, unless you bought your manual from Suzuki very recently you probably have the same edition that I do. (through '99   Part # 99500-34069-03E)

I have an '02 GS500 so I really only need the updated chapters from '00 through '02.

I have just read something on the forum about a supplement to the manual.  However, I called Suzuki and this just covers the '04 model, not the previous models.

I noticed in some of the additional year chapters that there was more information than just specifications.  There are supplemental maintenance procedures and photos for some years.  I know that the carburetors were changed around '01, but not sure if there is any other important changes.

I am not in a hurry at all.  This is just something that is bugging me.  I paid $60.00 for a manual thats not up to date.  And Suzuki can't help me short of selling me a new manual for another $60.00!

So, I would really appreciate it if you could, at your leisure, check the part # on your manual and let me know. Thanks.

I tried to send this privately but it got bounced.  Is your email address in your profile correct?  Text of attempted message follows.  You can reply privately to geekonabike@yahoo.com.

Hi Bob,

We have the same model numbers on our manuals (99500-34090-03-E) but mine has extra sections for other models.  The last such section is section 18, which is titled "GS500EK1/K2 ('01/'02-MODELS)."  If you want I can photocopy this last section, which is 11 pages, all specificiations.  Now Section 9 (GS500EL ('90-MODEL) ) has some diagrams, like cable routing, as does section 10, and maybe some others.  I don't know if each is an "update" and therefore you need each of the preceding updates.  If you want I can photocopy all of that, but it may take longer just because it is a longer job.  Or I can just run the pages through my photocopier on one side, and then let you make your own two-sided copies from them (you may have to sort first), which would be faster but mean a bigger package for you.  It matters not to me really.  Maybe you have some of the earlier sections.  What numbered section does yours end with?  And before I forget, what's your address?

Hoping to hear from you soon.
