Oil Change Help

Well its that time, my first time with the bike changing my oil and filter tonight. First off, where do i begin? Im gonna go pick up the filter and oil tonight, gonna run 10w40 motorcycle oil. Any tips? Perhaps KERRY has made some sort of picture tutorial for this that i have missed? Any info would be great as i have NO clue where to start. Also, how many quarts of oil should i need to buy?

And another question, im looking into a clear lense with LED lights in the rear. Now i dont know if Jeff D is still in business for the LED pannels, but if he isnt i need to purchase some LED replacement lights, pretty nice things if i may say so myself. But i need to know what size bulb we use, is it 1157? This is for the rear, brake lights. Thanks!

I did my first oil change a few weeks ago. I followed the directions in the Clymer manual, and everything went fine. My only suggestion is to wear a latex glove when you take the oil plug screw (whatever it is called) out, because when I took it out, the oil poured out all over my hand.

Danny, you going to adjust your chain too?  If you want, I can show you how to do it when I get back from San Diego on Sunday.  Call me if you get stuck, I did just change my oil...  Oh yeah, D&E will have more Yamalube 20W40 on Tuesday if you want to run what I run.  3.99/qt I believe.

Look forward to hearing how easy it was.  I plan to do mine as soon as it needs it.  Never changed my own car's oil, but with a new (used) bike, I'll give it a try.

Oh yeah, don't forget to spray off the front of your block by the filter cover, that way you won't have to spend a half hour cleaning the dirt off carefully.

How long should i let it cool before hittin with the hose? (gotta wash it anyways)

I ran it for about a minute to where I could feel the heat on the cylinders, then shot carb cleaner down there.  If you are using water, I'd wait a little longer and then scrub it also to help get rid of the oil film that is probably there.

If you take 245 north to Fresno, watch the corners as you get further and further up in elevation, they get progressively tighter, and you might hit snow now.  I hear Sierra Summit got some snow over the past week, so look ahead and be cautious mid-corner, even if you aren't leading.
