I saw pantablo's way of replacing the fork oil.  My local vet only had a syringe up to like 3oz.. or 2oz.. looks big but I don't think it will hold enough.

Is it generally recommended to pull off the forks?  My seals aren't leaking or anything... just the front is too soft.  How much 15w oil should I buy?

Oh well ... replacing oil ...might as well take it apart and clean it and install new seals ... might leave the stock dust covers if you must ... you're doing 90% of the work and leaving the most failure prone part (heck its a manitanance item really) un touched...
Cool.

When I put the Progressive's on, I was going to do the leave the forks on the bike method.  After looking at the procedure for removing them in the Haynes manual, I decided to take 'em off.  It's really not that much more work.  Makes properly draining and refilling them a breeze too  :)

One bottle of fork oil will be enough IIRC.

Just take them off if your bike still has the centerstand

you may be able to leave the front wheel on if you get creative

I belive I bought 1 quart and had some left over

ok.... how much fluid?

Jeff P

The springs come with a guide telling you how much fluid you need.  It's given in millimeters - the distance from the top of the tube to the fluid, with the fork compressed and springs not installed.
