One of my friends has an ex 500.  If I had to imagine what something with one cylinder would sound like, that is what his ex sounds like.  Are they a thumper of an engine any way or is he maybe running on one cylinder.  Just seems like when we sit side by side the gs sounds really smooth in comparison.

My brother has a EX500 and I think it is much louder than my GS.

Ah'ha...someone else is making my observation ...
OK kids gather round ... let grampa srinath tell you a story...
Anyway an EX has a motor that spins backwards, it also uses a chain to drive an alternator or a counterbalancer or some like that ...
That makes for a bike that just doesn't vibrate right at all ...
The bike is horrible at idle ... then as you start to do a walking speed ... seems to clean up nice, till you get past the 20 mph mark... where it kicks in with a vengeance... then it is relatively the same to ~55-65 where it drops off sharply ... and comes back gradually after that ... by 80 its par with a GS and by 85 its far worse ... I have posted that before too...
Now the 2 X EX motor - my eli 1000 ... has no chain and no funky ass reverse spinning motor ... cos the higher end and higher power motor will jar the marrow out of your bones if it did the same ... perfectly even and buttery smooth ... go figure ...
Cool.
Srinath.
