dangit! I got the socket but it rained just about all day yesterday and today and I'm going to PA for the holiday so I won't get back to work on the bike until Sunday or so. It'll probably be too cold then :/

I just watched that video

something is wrong man.  something's seized up.  Engine, tranny, starter or starter clutch or any combination...

third gear is enough momentum to turn an engine over...  plugs in it or not.

Okay, I finally got around to doing something. I was getting ready to load the bike on a trailer for delivery to some guy who was going to take a look at it. On a whim I decided to try to start it again. The headlight and instruments were bright. When I hit the start button the engine turned a bit. So whatever was seized isn't seized anymore. I rolled it out and tried push starting it again but this time in 5th gear and it started. Then I turned it off and tried push starting it again a couple of times but without the same speed and it did turn, but didn't start. I tried to jump start it with my car (engine turned off) and I blew a fuse on the bike.  I guess I should've connected the bike battery first, eh? I didn't have an extra fuse so I decided to go buy some then. Since I was going to the autoparts store, I took the battery with me and had them test it. It failed the test. It didn't finish charging. I bought a new battery and they're charging it tonight. I guess I'll pick it up tomorrow, drop it in and see if she'll go.

Maybe it was a faulty battery the whole time and the seizing was a wierd coincidence. Maybe 3rd gear isn't high enough with a 15t sprocket. Maybe the battery wasn't charging properly because of something else (goat's syndrome ?)

One thing is certain. I wish I had a garage to work in :)

The new battery is in and it is starting again. I don't know if it's charging or not because I haven't taken it out on the road. It's getting chilly and I don't quite have the right gear.

Thanks for all the help/suggestions.

Charging ... OK test multimeter across the battery terminals ... 13.5+ volts at 3K is plenty, ~14.5-15 at 5K is again good. Riding it wont prove a thing ... except your ability to push the bike back 15 miles to your house.
Cool.
