A couple of rejetting questions...

I've added rejetting my '96 to my list of things to do this winter.  I figure that and a Bob B. ignition advancer will be nice changes come spring.  Got the various how-tos and info pages bookmarked.  

The bike has the stock exhaust and the K&N drop-in filter, with the restrictor ring.  From what I've read, I should go with the #40 pilot jets, 127.5 mains and 2 washers under the needles, raising it 1 mm, and 3 turns on the air screw.  That sound right?

Do I leave that restrictor ring in the filter?  Would there be any benefit from taking it out if I'm keeping the stock exhaust?  If it would help, are different settings needed for the carbs?

Next question:  I see that the Dynojet kit with all the parts is ~$75.  I also see that people say you can buy the individual parts for more like ~$20.  Washers from the hardware store, #40 pilots from Suzuki, and the mains from Chapparal (part #N100/604).  Do I have that right?

if you want to keep that restrictor I'd do 125 mains, take it out and 127.5 ...
Mains are availabe at bike stores ... no need for catalog. the rest was right on the nose...

On the restrictor, is there any reason not to take it off and go with 127.5's?

Sounds about right so far.  I would suggest that if you do re-jet, to also put on a K&N pod or oval air filter, and some type of aftermarket exhaust.  Re-jetting with the stock exhaust and air filter won't show much difference.  Contact Srinath if you need anything.  He will actually re-jet your carbs for you for a very reasonable price (and it will be done right).  He is also selling a slip-on exhaust flange for aftermarket cans.  You can pick those up on eBay.

You want to keep that pipe stock ... then I guess no reason to take off restrictor and go 127.5 ... why I am saying is ... that stock pipe pretty much chokes the bike, take off the restrictor and you may want a 126... pipe and 127.5 ... no one makes a 126 ... so leave it and run 125, and when you put pipe then 12.5 and no restrictor ... keep it interesting ...

Thanks a lot guys.  Must be a new record for speedy, helpful replies.  

Ok so since the exhaust is the bottleneck, removing the restrictor won't really make a difference.  Gotchya.  If I decide later down the line to put a less restrictive muffler on, then it'll be a good idea to ditch the restrictor and up the mains.
