Don't look at your tach or speedo...

Wow, I love technology. Wouldn't shell out the cash for it, but a cool little gadget.

MR_PINK

That is awesome....where is the price tag on the site though   :dunno:

CasiUSA

I saw it in "Wired" they said it ran somewhere around $300 I think.

bcutrufelli

thts kinda cool espesially if you wanted to remove the tach/ speedo

Just out of curiousity, is there anyone here who would actually shell out the cash for that?
I think it's a sweet gadget, but I think there are better places to spend my money in the 2 wheeled department.  :dunno:

I think I'd have to be awfully naughty for Santa to get me one of those.

I read it'd cost less than $200, but $200 or $321 is big money, I'd rather buy a new leather jacket, radial tyres, a slip on, 25 to 40 fuel tanks, and I guess some of the features of that gadget can be done by a cheaper bicycle computer. I don't mean we'll see the cheap computer figures reflected on our windshields, but if we all live without fuel injection, rebound adjustment, water cooling, 4 valves per cylinder, etc, then we can live without that stuff...

Just my 2/100...

I'll purchase it once it comes with a targeting system and surface to air missiles. For example:

Now that would be cool.

heh, I didn't know where CasiCUA was going with this post. My tach is dead, and I understand the GS speedo isn't entirely accurate... so I don't need that gadget -- I don't look at them anyway!

Yes, but now they can be dead and inaccurate on a digital display on your helmet

The Buddha

OK how long is it going to take for your eyes to focus on the helmet windshield (and is it even possible to focus that close) and then focus back up to the road ... at 60 mph that's way much distance.
Cool.

I havn't downloaded the movie yet because I am on dialup at home and I forget at work but what I would do is have rpms represented by colors, like a backwards rainbow, so 1000-2000rpms is represented by the color purple...so by the time you get to red it's redlining...  Colors seem like you wouldn't have to really focus on them, just recognize them in your peripheral.

And for speed just make the numbers really BIG.

FYI, peripheral vision is in black&white :)

Almost takes as much attention off the road to see the display as it does the regular speedo. Expensive "toy"...

Mine isn't.  I must be a mutant...and my girlfriend too, cause she sees colors in her peripheral as well.

Hey.  The idea here is a good one, in fact there have been several projects in the past that have tried doing this, ie (BMW has something like this but its built into the helmet as well as a research project at Penn State).

My friend and I have been working on a HUD for the motorcycle as well.  Ours is differnt from this b/c we use a multipurpose computer so that you can do more then just see your tach and speed (for instance listen to mp3s, use a 2-way radio to chat to your buds, etc).

We have been stalled on this project for a bit b/c classes kicked in and didn't have time for it but we will be starting back on it.  We also estimate that the initial price of our unit (if/when we release it) shoud be around $300 to $400.

No, it's in color.  But it is less focused and more tuned to movement than binocular vision.  And of course, being non-binocular, it has terrible depth perception.
