Hello all,

I am goin to change the front brake disc on my 93 this weekend. Since I lend my Haynes to a "friend" and I'm not likely to have it back before sunday, I need some guidance.
Does anyone know the torque values for the mounting bolts of the disc? Do you use loctide or not? Is there a pattern to fasten the bolts or will a random do?

What is the torque setting of the front brake caliper mounting bolts?

What is the torque setting of the front wheel axle nut for a self locking (euro) model.

A big thank you, and I hope I haven't forgotten something.

Steven.

Hot off the scanner!

For the pattern, just tighten every second bolt as you go around.  I would suggest going around 2 or 3 times: finger tight, then snugged up, then torqued down.

As luck would have it, just tonight I assembled a set of pictures of the process -- from when I did it during the summer.  It's fairly straightforward, but just for kicks check out the brand-new HOW TO: Front Rotor Replacement thread in the FAQ forum.

Kerry, when you get around to writing the description make sure to include a hint to use well-fitting bits on the rotor bolts and to give them a good rap with a hammer on the bit first / heat them to loosen the thread lock. I have read a few to many reports about people damaging these bolts when trying to take off their rotors.

I like the way you have the front wheel elevated 8)  beats trying to get a car jack up under the bar near the exhaust headers :thumb:

Hehe, since I don't have any bird food,  I usually use a large empty reservoir (weights nothing), put that on the back of the bike, put the garden hose in it and fill it with water.
