starting problems...

hey all...my bike all of a sudden has problems starting...the engine just wont turn over...everything is fine - oil, gas, choke, whatever...when i hit the starter it just makes some sounds like it is about to start, then it doesnt...

the mechanic at my local shop told me to take the battery out and give it to him...he's gonna give it a full charge and then we'll see if thats the problem...while that's going on, i was wondering if it could be anything else?

i pretty much try to start it every day, with differing results...yesterday the oil pressure light went off every time i would hit the starter, and i would have to unscrew the dipstick and screw it back in to get the oil pressure light to come back on...today the oil pressure light stayed on, but it still wouldnt start...i tried starting it 3-4 times until i hear what sounded like a backfire...then i stopped trying lol...

but yeah, any ideas/comments would be great...thanks

Did you try to push start it? That might tell you if it is starter and/or battery as opposed to some other mechanical.

Don't forget to choke it when push starting.
