Short Stalk II markers dual filament

I just installed these on my rear end of gs500f.  They came with 3 wires

1 - solid black = running light
2 - red = positive lead
3 - black/white = ground

I read somewhere that running lights are "illegal" on the street so I yanked them out.  

I had some aluminum tape hanging around the house and i covered the black housing inside.   These made the lights brighter than stock signals!

Took about 10 mins to do.  Now i have matching clear tail light and carbon fiber clear turn signals.  I'll post pics tonight. They look quite spiffy  

debating if i should replace the front ones or not.  :dunno:

Has anyone connected the third wire for running lights on dual filament turn signals?  It seems to me that this would make the bike more visable, especially at night.  I wonder if these LONG STEM SIGNAL LAMP
REAR - Dual Filament - OEM # 35601-45130/49430  
would fit?

I have. I took them off though, because as it got colder I began having difficulty starting in the morning.

Also, Harley riders didn't wave to me as much when I had the running lights.

Do you remember the condition of the battery at the time?  Was it new or old, etc.?

Do you think the extra drain of about 30 watts reduced the charging current enough to cause the low battery?

The battery is not the original, I would say that it's at least 3 years old; probably 5.

I think it was more the drain while cranking, because the lights didn't cutout like the headlamp does.

An aged battery along with reduced charging capability with the running lights may have combined to cause the weak cranking.

Hmmmm.....,  your headlight cuts out while cranking?  I don't think mine does. :x   What year is your bike?
