help me figure out the angle for the shift lever

Okay.. if you look at the shift lever (on the clutch/front sprocket cover) there are like 3 or 4 lines cut into the clutch cover that are parallel to the bike.  My shift lever was parallel with these lines.  I was having an issue with the bike not being easy to pop into 2nd from 1st... now is this because that lever should be one notch lower?  I adjusted there and it feels wierd.. but that might be because I'm used to it being up...

make sense?

My lever runs parallel to the ground.  You might need to adjust the clutch cable...check your manual on how to do it.. :cheers:

The way I adjust my shift lever after I take it off, is to sit on the bike, and place the shift lever where it feels comfortable for my foot.

I don't think where the shift lever is matters for shifting, just how comfortable it is for your foot to shift.

hmm.... my clutch cable should be adjusted properly..  it begins to catch maybe 1/2 way out.. and is fully engaged when released

My lever was level, I think.  I moved it up because I wore work boots, and it was too low.  With the lever a bit higher, it was comfortable for riding, but I had to raise my foot a fair bit before downshifting.  

Then I got riding boots, which aren't so thick, and I moved it back down again.

didn't even know you could adjust the shifter lever.  I already know mine's too high, I've just dealt with it.

Is the rear brake lever adjustable too?

Here's the angle of my shift lever:



Before I take it off I scratch a tiny mark on the end of the shifter shaft that lines up with the "crack" in the lever clamp.  (You probably can't see it in the photo below, but you get the idea.)  When I put the lever back on I just line up the space with the mark....

Adjust it to where it is comfortable and you can fit your boot under it easily enough

Yep, by adjusting the length of the pushrod that operates the brake cylinder. Suzuki gives a specification of the height of the tip of the lever in relation to the footpegs: The top surface of the pedal should be 47 mm (1 7/8") below the top surface of the footpeg.

Concerning the shift lever: Just position it where it feels comfortable. You will find that only one of the possible positions fulfills that criterion.

can anyone else verify that kerry's shift lever (while in neutral) is in the same position their's is in?

Mine is about the same.  I ride with my boot on the footpeg beside the shifter...that way I can go under and lift or go over and push.
